Module 8 Discussion

IMPORTANT: These ARE NOT opinion papers.  Even if you are an expert in this area, you need to support your statements with documentation.  You may draw your own conclusions, but at the academic level we need to be able evaluate the foundation of your statements.  Otherwise, you are just offering opinions that have little meaning or relevance to the academic community. You need to be able to apply the course materials to the real world.  You should make statements supported by evidence and reasoning, and/or otherwise demonstrate thoughtful analysis of your topic – analysis which shows YOUR THOUGHTS on the subject and DOES NOT MERELY REPEAT WHAT SOURCES TELL YOU. I will be looking for each participant to draw on their “real-world” experiences and knowledge base in relation to the course material(s). It is my desire to see each person apply those experiences to the assignments. I give more weight to a demonstrated understanding and applicability of the textbook information towards real-world experiences/situations.

ALWAYS SUPPORT YOUR IDEAS, ARGUMENTS, AND COMMENTS WITH APPROPRIATELY REFERENCED (APA) LITERATURE, THEORY, AND RESEARCH.

REFERENCES AND SOURCES:  All references and sources used in this course must be academically sound.  You may not use “pop culture” resources such as People or Psychology Today.  You may not use “wikis” or various search engine “about” sources such as Wikipedia, eHow.com, Ask.com, About.com, CliffNotes.org, WikiAnswers.com, Answers.com, Answers.Yahoo.com, Answers.google.com, Sociology.about.com, Psychology.about.com, etc.

Whereas documentation is very important to academic writing, an 80% majority of the posts should be in your own words.  Directly quoted materials in excess of 20% will be subject to penalty.  In addition, I will deduct points for misspelled words, grammatical errors, improper sentence structure and punctuation. PLEASE REVIEW THE CRITERIA FOR “SUBSTANTIVE” IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE REQUIREMENTS.  All responses must meet the criteria of “substantive” as defined in the syllabus. Simply responding “yes”, “no”, “I agree”, etc., is not sufficient to earn credit for the assignments.

All postings will be respectful and have proper “netiquette.” You can feel free to disagree constructively and courteously regarding your own thoughts and ideas compared to others. Name calling or attacking another person is not acceptable online classroom behavior and will be dealt with administratively.

ALL WORK FOR CREDIT MUST BE POSTED WITHIN THE DESIGNATED CLASS ASSIGNMENT THREAD.

If you’re the first to enter the Discussion, there will only be a “Start a New Thread” button.

To respond to a classmate use the “Reply to Thread” button
